As part of the project “Job Fit: Economic empowerment of persons with disabilities”, financed by the American Agency for International Development (USAID), an analysis of policies and recommendations for improving the position of persons with disabilities on the labor market was carried out.

The research was conducted by the Center for Independent Living of Persons with Disabilities in Serbia.

The goal of the analysis is the current situation regarding the employment of persons with disabilities, in order to determine the success of current public policies for the economic empowerment of persons with disabilities, a description of the situation and the main obstacles in employment, as well as the most significant factors affecting the success of strategies aimed at improving the position of persons with disabilities.

The qualitative part of the research was conducted through in-depth interviews with various participants – parents of children with disabilities, persons with disabilities, representatives of persons with disabilities, the Association for Cerebral Palsy, a representative of the International Labor Organization, representatives of the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs, etc.

The study is focused on people with disabilities of working age, so the social benefits analyzed in the study are exclusively related to this sensitive group. Based on the results of this research, key challenges were identified, as well as recommendations of importance for the improvement of regulations and practices in the field of work and employment of persons with disabilities.
