On October 23 and 24, in Vrdnik, the third training titled “Assessment of Work Ability in Line with the Social Model of Disability” was held, intended for members of the Commission for Work Ability Assessment. The two-day training was organized by the Youth with Disabilities Forum with the support of UNDP Serbia.
The training gathered experts from various institutions who, through interactive work and experience sharing, analyzed current practices and discussed ways to improve the assessment system, focusing on the social model of disability, which recognizes environmental barriers and the potential of each individual.
During the first day, participants were introduced to the basics of international and national regulations on the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, the concept of the social model of disability, as well as the experiences of persons with disabilities in the work ability assessment process. Special attention was given to the legislative framework—laws and regulations governing work ability assessment.
The second day was dedicated to practical aspects and improving the assessment system. The role of the Commission for Work Ability Assessment, the responsibilities of its members, and the criteria for assessment were discussed, along with the application of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health. Participants analyzed an example from Montenegro and, through discussion, created joint proposals for improving the system in anticipation of possible legislative changes.
The trainings are part of the project “Road to Reformed System for Assessing Work Ability”, implemented by the Youth with Disabilities Forum with the support of UNDP Serbia. The activity is carried out within the broader project “Strengthening Equality, Rights and Inclusive Actions”, which UNDP implements in cooperation with UN Women and the UN Population Fund in Serbia, with financial support from the Global Disability Fund.
