Belgrade, April 20–23, 2026 – The Youth with Disabilities Forum (YDF) hosted a regional study visit on inclusive employment as part of the CORDIAL – Inclusion Without Borders project. The visit focused on the right to work for persons with disabilities, with particular attention to employment opportunities for people with mental health conditions.
Gathering representatives of Caritas networks and civil society organizations from across the Western Balkans and Italy, the study visit provided a platform for exchanging practical experiences and examining both progress and persistent barriers in inclusive employment.
Through a series of meetings with institutions, businesses, social enterprises, and civil society organizations, participants explored different models and practices supporting the employment of persons with disabilities. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of cross-sector cooperation and sustainable support systems.
The program highlighted both institutional frameworks and community-based approaches, including examples of good practice in professional rehabilitation, corporate inclusion, and social entrepreneurship. It also addressed the specific challenges faced by people with mental health conditions, emphasizing stigma, lack of support services, and systemic gaps as key barriers to employment.
The study visit demonstrated that while there are strong examples and valuable expertise in Serbia and the region, inclusive employment still often depends on individual initiatives rather than being fully embedded as a standard practice.
In partnership with Caritas Serbia, YDF continues to advocate for systemic improvements and sustainable solutions, working toward a society in which every person has equal opportunities to work, contribute, and live with dignity.
